Effects of the bombs 

There were many bad effects of the nuclear bombs.  One effect was severe burns from the flash and heat wave of the bomb.  Another one was broken bones from the shock wave.  There is also painful purple sores all over the victims body and infertility.  Also, there is radiation poisoning which the Japanese called "Disease X".  This consists of horrible blisters  and deformities.  

Any exposed surface that was flammable instantly caught fire from the released energy of the bomb.  Click here to see more.

Casualties

In the first bomb drop alone 99,000-166,000 were killed.  In the second bomb drop 60,000-80,000 were killed.  People were killed by all kinds of things.  Some were killed by the bomb itself, others were killed by debris.  More were killed by radiation and sickness afterwards.
